Garden News

You guys, last year I started a garden in our backyard.  We had really good success with tomatoes, cucumbers, hot peppers and cucamelons.

That early success, had me dreaming of expansion and green houses and providing even more food staples for our table.

With the dream in my heart

I purchased a backyard high tunnel green house and was excited to get it installed.  The installation took longer than I thought due to various weather interruptions. (can't pour concrete in the rain). Anyhow, we got it up and put the cover on.

I bought a table and started my seeds.  Sadly, by the time I started my seeds we were well into Spring and the temperatures were starting to soar early.

I started so organized.  Keeping a journal, mapping out the seed layout and labeling trays.

It's going to be great!

Is what I told myself.  My seeds were late, but I was not going to let that stop me.  Before long I had seedlings that were ready for transplant.

In the ground they went and I thought, soon we will be having salads fresh from the garden.  Truly, this fills a place in me, besides my stomach. The sense of accomplishment is exciting.

I was so wrong!

You guys, it is August 4th and we have not had a single fruit or vegetable from our garden (with the exception of re-grown green onions-I don't count them because they were not from seed).

Earlier this week, our very first tomato appeared on a plant, it is still green, but I am excited to see the plants beginning to produce.

Our weather has been so unstable this season. Really hot, a lot of rain, tropical storms and random bursts of wind.  Sadly, our little greenhouse didn't survive one of those bursts of wind.

It literally broke the metal

framing of the green house and ripped the canvas top.  Here it is August, and while we will continue to have warm weather, fall will be here before we know it and I am back to sans greenhouse.

I am now going to have to rethink and come up with a new plan.  I hope you will check back periodically for our garden updates along with our other endeavors and creations.

Until next time, Stay safe and Soothe the Soul Your Way ~ Tiffany
